Poem 04

Salt & Citrus

A summer kitchen, kept like a secret in a napkin.

You split the orange with your thumbs
and the kitchen filled with July.
Salt on the rim of the glass,
your laugh a bright rind.

The fan turned the afternoon
into a slow gold carousel.
We said almost nothing
and meant the whole season.

I keep that hour folded
where the sweet meets the sting—
impossible to throw away,
impossible to eat only once.
